VSA Internship Program 2011-2012

Hey y’all! If you haven’t yet heard, VSA is officially accepting internship applications! If you are curious about what it takes to be a VSA officer, or planning on running for office the upcoming year, this will be a great opportunity for you to apply for! Even if you are not planning on running for office, you can apply just for the experience (everyone always needs more EXP)! You will get to work with officers behind the scenes and it will also be a great way to hang out with us. Either way we would love to have you as a part of our team and to get to know you more! (Come on let’s be honest, we see each other more than enough and it would be nice to be able to see some new faces around!), so as a little promotion on our Internship Program this year, here are some blurbs written by the officers and their position to spark your interest! Or if you already made your decision on applying, and need no more persuading, just skip right to the end to find out how to apply!

President - Linh Ho

“Being president means being VSA’s ultimate organizational mastermind! Besides coordinating all meetings, organizational events, and being the chief spokesperson for the club you learn how to network with others, become more approachable and knowledgeable about VSA to be able to answer questions from others! Other than that be an intern for me and we can just hang out!” - The Boss

Internal Vice President - Vincent Lin

“The IVP is in charge of all events in the case of an absence of the President and to ensure that all officers maintain a good working relationship. The IVP mediates between internal problems that officers might have. As an intern, you will experience the inner workings of VSA and maintain a smooth relationship with other fellow officers. Also, you can learn about the little things that make VSA, as a whole, run well together!” - Vinnie Lin Yo

External Vice President - Crystal Huynh-Kim

“Being the EVP is as fun as you want it to be! You can coordinate any kind of mixer with any club that you feel would be an asset for VSA to mingle and network with. This is beneficial both socially and as a leader because you build lasting connections and bonds. Afterwards you are THE liaison between VSA and every other organization on and off campus! As an intern, you will be attending social events from other clubs not only on campus, but also other VSAs at other schools to show our dedicated support for them! You will also help me plan and coordinate events, mixers, and activities for VSA. So be an intern for me!” - Crystal :]

Secretary - Andrew Nam Le

“I’m the secretary. I send out e-mails, make powerpoint slides, in charge of sign-up sheets, and keep a record of our members. My intern would help me send e-mails and make power points.” - ANDREW. NAM. LE.

Treasurer - Diana Thanh Thao Hong

“If you like to:
Handle money.
Document finances.
Own a debit card.
Good organization skills.
Intern to be treasurer :)” - Diana ‘Make it Rain’ Hong

Historian - Linda Trang Dai Phan

“History is not an obscure topic nor a cluster of memories. It is neither archaic writing nor just printed images. As a historian, I sustain the life that we have learned to call ‘the past’. Through captured moments, not just pictures, we open ourselves to the rush of emotions that we all shared in that specific frame of existence. And I do so in hope that one day, not only may the future learn from, but also cherish these perfect moments they see. History repeats itself, and the love that is shared between us and our members is something worth experiencing again.” -Linda Phan is super awesome, man

Publications - Lawrence Nguyen & David Ducko Nguyen

“Publications officers are the designers for text and images such as posters, flyers and banners for all VSA events! Being Publications means being super creative and artsy, therefore your creativity is not limited to posters, flyers and banners. We are also currently needing some tech savvy personalities to help us design a website, so if you are up for it intern for us!” - Cutie Lawrence & The Duck Himself

Publicity - Jonathan Minh-Man Tran & Teena Tien Nguyen

 pub·lic·i·ty/pəˈblisətē/

 Noun:

1. The notice or attention given to someone or something by the media.
2. Public exposure; notoriety.

“Through effective and concise advertising, we get the job done! Booyah. Come hang out with us to help get VSA’s name out there to the public, be friends with all the members as well as assist the EVP in their doings. Don’t fight the urge and intern for us! Jonathan wants coffee.” - Jonathan Minh-Man Tran & Teena<3

Culture Chairs - Bryan Bui & Suzie Lam

“Culture Chair involves all the glamour of culture like casting actors, dancers, singers, and choreographing, and designing costumes and sets. But it also involves business too like finding sponsorships, booking theater dates, counting profit money, meeting a lot of people to make connections. As a culture intern, you will learn many different skills involving casting, money, and business relations. What can we say, we’re the do it all in one job!” - Taeyang Bryan** & Smooooth Suzieeeee

Philanthropy Chair: Kristy Nguyen & Linh Nguyen

“Other than planning for one of our biggest VSA events of the year: The annual bikeaton we also help seek charity opportunities for VSA to participate in. We also help plan and implement fundraisers for the our annual chosen charity! On top of that intern for us to hang out with some cool gals! :)” - Kool Kristy & lil’ Linh yo

So now that you have an idea of our officer positions, we hope you will be interested in interning for us this upcoming year! For more information please contact Vincent Lin at VinLin@ucdavis.edu or you can easily apply for our internship program online through the google application below! Hope to hear from you!

VSA & AAA Corn Maze Mixer
Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

We just had our first mixer of the year with a fellow campus organization called the Asian American Association and as our first mixer, we decided to having it by getting lost in the infamous Dixon Corn Maze! This corn maze won the award in 2007 for being the largest corn maze in the nation in the Guinness Book of World Records. In total, we had 28+ people who came out, grabbed some maps, busted out their flashlights, and got lost in this large acre of corn fields.

Because this was a mixer, we separated both of the clubs into groups of partners of two. One couple from VSA and one couple from AAA would group up and be let out in the wild alone. This clearly wasn’t a competition since we wanted to have these groups take their time getting to know each other as they try to wiggle their way around the exit.

After completing corn maze, some people went to play in the Corn Bath (which is a pool of kernels), climbed the pyramid of hay, and then played with the wagons doing wheeleys and races.

The end of the night was topped off with an after-corn maze social. At INNOUT! All in all, it was a terrific event. Shout out to AAA for a successful mixer, hope to mingle with you all again soon! ;)

VSA FOOD NIGHT Phở SHO!!!

Last Wednesday was VSA’s first food night which we featured Pho noodle soup located at the Avalon Club house, we were all very happy that there was a good amount of people that showed up to support our first food night, including those who paid for membership and reppin’ our new T-shirt this year! The night included everyone just gathering together at tables eating Pho, and some even came back to support by buying 2nd, and 3rd bowls of Pho, there was some spontaneous dancing, little icebreakers here and there, and of course a birthday shout out to one of our very dedicated members: Vi Doan. This food night couldn’t of been successful without the members that came out and VSA would like to sincerely thank you all, and hopefully will get the same support for our future Food Nights.

THANK YOU: To those that helped cooked, babysit the Pho overnight, manning the kitchen, and of course thanks to everyone else for EATING! :)

Upcoming Event:

Wednesday October, 19 is our first GAMES NIGHT in our usual meeting room, Wellman 216. VSA is very excited to be able to set up a night for all of us just to gather be silly and have fun. This games night will include an array of group competitive games, even though I bet some of you are imagining board games (which are awesome), but is too”tame” for a VSA GAMES NIGHT! :) We will be playing games that include tower building with marshmallows, chubby bunny competitions, charades with a twist and others that you are going to have to come to find out! Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be silly with some great people as well as meet some new friends! We hope to see you all there, and if there are questions please don’t hesitate to ASK!
